The summit and its two figures
Shengena is the highest point of the Pare Mountains, standing inside Chome Nature Forest Reserve in the South Pare, in Same District of Kilimanjaro Region. Tanzania Forest Services gives the peak as 2,462 metres above sea level. Same District Council gives approximately 2,463 metres.
Both are published by Tanzanian government bodies, they disagree by a metre, and neither is wrong in any way that matters on the mountain. Both are given here because giving one and suppressing the other is how a single unverified figure becomes the internet’s answer.
The peak sits inside a managed reserve: TFS gives Chome as 14,283 hectares and describes it as the largest part of the South Pare Mountains. That matters, because unlike the viewpoints and waterfalls elsewhere in these ranges, Shengena has an actual managing authority.
The walk
Same District Council puts the usual start at Chome village and the walk at four to six hours return. It adds the detail that decides most trips: reaching Chome village itself needs a four-wheel-drive vehicle. The approach, not the ascent, is what people underestimate.
The council’s own advice is heavy clothing and proper boots, because the summit is cold and the ground is slippery. The contrast is extreme — Same town on the plain below can be baking while the ridge above it is in cloud — and people set off dressed for the valley.

What you see, and what you should not treat as a view
TFS names viewpoints looking out over Mkomazi National Park, the Taita Hills and Tsavo across the Kenyan border, and the sisal plantations along the highway far below. Same District Council adds the Nyumba ya Mungu reservoir and, on a clear day, the Usambaras.
The mountain also carries ritual significance for the Pare. Same District Council names Ndiva Nkundu on the mountain as a traditional rain-making and blessing site. It is in use and it is not a tourist attraction; a local guide is the right way to be anywhere near it.
