Day-by-day itinerary

What the operator has planned, day by day, across 7 days.

  1. Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, transfer to Arusha

Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro Airport; you travel with your guide and the same vehicle for the whole trip. The transfer takes you to Arusha, a town regarded as the gateway to the national parks of the north. At your accommodation you have time to recover from the flight and prepare for the safari.

  2. Day 2

Drive from Arusha to Karatu, passing villages and rural landscapes along the way

In the morning you drive with your guide from Arusha to Karatu. Along the way you pass small villages and rural landscapes and get a first impression of life outside the town. Karatu lies close to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is the starting point for the descent into the crater the next morning.

  3. Day 3

Descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, game drive between grassland, swamps and lake

Early in the morning you descend with your guide to the crater floor. The roughly 260 km² caldera combines grassland, swamps, patches of woodland and an alkaline lake, and its density of wildlife is among the highest in Africa. You look out for lions, elephants, buffalo and wildebeest; with a bit of luck you may also see a black rhino. After several hours on a game drive you return to your accommodation.

  4. Day 4

Drive from Karatu to the Serengeti, first game drive around Seronera

After breakfast you drive from Karatu to the Serengeti. The journey itself is part of the safari, and along the way you see the first animals. In the afternoon you set off on your first game drive in the centre of the park; around Seronera, with its river valleys and rock formations, a great deal of game can be seen all year round.

  5. Day 5

Game drives in the early morning and late afternoon between river valleys and plains

The day belongs to game drives in the Serengeti. You set off in the early morning and are out again in the late afternoon, when the light is soft and the animals are particularly active. Between river valleys, acacia landscapes and open plains you look out for lions, cheetahs and elephants; hippos and Nile crocodiles live in the rivers.

  6. Day 6

Another safari day, herds of wildebeest and zebras, further regions of the park

The second full Serengeti day gives you time to get to know further corners of the park. The great herds of wildebeest and zebras move through the park depending on the season; your guide knows the regions with the best chances of sightings. Hyenas, jackals and giraffes are also part of the picture, and at sunrise and sunset soft light lies over the plains.

  7. Day 7

Domestic flight from Seronera to Arusha, journey home

After breakfast you drive to Seronera Airstrip. The domestic flight takes you back to Arusha and saves you the long drive back. Your safari ends in Arusha; from there you begin your journey home.
