Arusha City to Arusha National Park
About 50km for a ranger-guided walking safari targeting Hartlaub's turaco, silvery-cheeked hornbill and Abyssinian crimsonwing, then an afternoon game drive for colobus, giraffe and buffalo. Full board back in Arusha.

Day 3
Arusha City to Tarangire National Park
About 120km with packed lunches and a full day game drive. Targets include ashy starling, yellow-collared lovebird and southern ground hornbill. Mid-range Lake Burunge Tented Lodge or semi-luxury Tarangire Sopa Lodge, full board.

Day 4
Tarangire National Park, full day
A second full day for rufous-tailed weaver, northern pied babbler and pygmy falcon, alongside lion, leopard and cheetah. Full board.

Tarangire National Park to Lake Manyara National Park
About 90km to Lake Manyara, working the lakeshore and woodland for crowned eagle, silvery-cheeked hornbill and lilac-breasted roller. Mid-range Manyara Wildlife Safari Camp or semi-luxury Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge, full board.

Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park (Central-Seronera)
About 205km, game driving through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for red-throated tit, Schalow's wheatear and martial eagle. Mid-range Embalakai Authentic Camp or semi-luxury Serengeti Serena Lodge, inside the park, full board.

8: Serengeti National Park, full days
Two full days across the plains and riverine forest for grey-breasted spurfowl, Fischer's lovebird and secretary bird, with lion, cheetah and, in season, the migration. Full board inside the park.

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
A final Serengeti game drive, then about 145km through the Ngorongoro Highlands for golden-winged sunbird, Baglafecht weaver and Abyssinian nightjar. Mid-range Country Lodge Karatu or semi-luxury Ngorongoro Serena Lodge on the crater rim, full board.

Day 9
Ngorongoro Crater tour to Udzungwa Mountains National Park
An early crater descent for black rhino, rosy-throated longclaw, rufous-tailed weaver and kori bustard, then a long transfer of about 545km and eight hours south to Udzungwa. Mid-range Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp or semi-luxury Hondo Hondo Tented Camp, full board.

12: Udzungwa Mountains National Park
Two full days on the forest nature trails with local guides, targeting the Udzungwa forest partridge, rufous-winged sunbird and Udzungwa thrush, and primates including the Udzungwa red colobus and Sanje crested mangabey. Full board.

Udzungwa Mountains National Park to Dar es Salaam, departure
A final early morning birding walk, then about 350km and six hours to Dar es Salaam with a farewell lunch en route, and transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport.
